LEGO

Brief -
to make idents for LEGO for an ITV programme.

We came to the conclusion that LEGO is for creating, experimenting, playing.
It allows children to re-create existing objects etc or to create their own inventions, animals, people, worlds etc. RANDOM WEIRD CREEPY STUFF.

It allows the child to use their imagination and creativity more so than other toys where the toy is already built for you.

LEGO IS FUN

Lego can be enjoyed by the child alone, with friends or with parents.

Either:    target children
parents - (we thought the mum would be more likely to buy it for the child and the dad to buy it    for themseves)

when both are watching TV together
We decided we should target the parents. But we didn't want to target mums or dads. We wanted to target a kind of parent. A parent who would want their children to use their imagination and create.

With this in mind

"LEGO IS FUN
For creating, experimenting, playing.  Using imagination and creativity create their own inventions, animals, people, worlds etc."
we started looking at ITVprogrammes.

we looked at things like loose women - for women at home with kids but they weren't funny.

We chose Harry Hills TV Burp.

Harry Hill creates his own characters, worlds, songs, is FUNNY, ridiculous, random, creepy WEIRD, imaginative.

kids make "RANDOM WEIRD CREEPY STUFF" from Lego

We were chatting about working with kids and having younger cousins and all the creepy shit they make  and show it off to you and you have to go
"oh LOVELY, it's REALLY good man... WOOOOWWW"
and all you can think is...

                 WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

KIDS ARE PURE.

The best thing about kids (in our opinion, as we can just hand them back when they stink and cry) is the pure shit they do. They make weird creep stuff and LOVE it. and we LOVE it.

We want to target parents/people who know a child and can run when they stink who find the stuff kids make PURE and generally have a sense of humour.

Another reason Harry Hills TV Burp fits is he says and does WEIRD shit and you find yourself going
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

Kids look at a situation / object in a different way...
once when we were little my mum said to my sister
"oh your such a pretty girl"
and she replied
"i'm NOT a GIRL, I AM REBECCAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!"

ok, not the best examples but you get it.

Harry Hill also looks at things differently

We were thinking about the stuff kids make with lego, or in general

We found this article in STELLA magazine by Alain de Botton and he was talking about kids, and said his kid made a kitchen for a giraffe out of lego.

Kids make things that are weird in real life.

We were talking some more and we said that kids always get obsessed with weird facts, stories, time periods in history etc and go on and on about them and tell you all about it, draw it, MAKE IT.

I was obsessed with Bible stories
Ellas brother knew EVERYTHING about dinosaurs and car brands
My sister was OBSESSED with egypt and used to draw hieroglyphs all over her bedroom wall

to name but a few...

So why not go on this truth and make weird unrealisic situations and weird facts out of lego.

Also what the adult THINKS they made/ what it looks like.

SO we started thinking what we were obsessed with:

...and came up with henry the VIII and his 6 wives.
He choppped off their heads and one had 6 fingers
and was FAT and wore stupid tights and a hat. what more could a kid ask for in a lesson?

Weird situations:
This was harder than it looks, maybe we should have got drunk and it would of come easier...

we did have a toupe for a horse named WINNIE PRESLEY but we had to leave her behind :( and went for

A dinosaurs wedding
CUTE

Kids LOVE talking about body parts and bodily functions, and generally being rude.
My cousin just runs around shouting poo in your ear and showing you her butt, which is funny for a second so we kept it clean.

We thought about how kids draw themselves for school tea towels and how PURE it is.

so we combined them and came up with
a person with a VERY a long neck.

We wanted one from the adults point of view...
I was looking at my housemates gross hairbrush full of peroxide hair and it just came

A CHICKEN CROSSED WITH A HAIRBRUSH

ok so we have kids making WEIRD shit from lego that you don't really know what they are, you go WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT...
We thought we could use a medium from TV Burp to show it/relate it to the show...

make lego inventions fight?
morph into each other?

he also does PURE paintings

paintings with lego on them?
paintings of lego?

highlight of the week

we decided highlight of the week fitted really well. quick, weird, you don't really get it, funny.

When your kid/a kid does something/makes something FUNNY it's the highlight of your day/week.

MAYBE PARENTS COULD SUBMIT  PICTURES OF WHAT THEIR KIDS MADE THAT WEEK TO A WEBSITE???
THEIR HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK.

ART DIRECTION

Harry uses very well made props.
But we wanted to go for a more hand-made looking...look.
like a kids just made it.

we didn't plan it much we just wanted to see what happened. let it get CREATIVE and SPONTANEOUS.

we looked at be kind rewind who make their own props

Blue Peter

We wanted to jazz it up with 'smoke machines' ie i made my poor housemates smoke lots of fags all at once and blow it onto our set.

we wanted it to spin so we put it on Ellas record player etc

basically we just got INVENTIVE.

jess having a good time

jess getting pissed off

Anne Boleyns finger spinning on a record player

a cute plane that pulls the words

a dinosaurs wedding
spinning on a record player  with various cocktail sticks and friends hands

A guy with a long neck

 Headless wife

Jess HATING it

G helping out with the Chicken crossed with a hairbrush

we were going to add a line on the end but when we tried it it was too much.
and you got the odea anyway without it.

We thought about extending this project.

Lego is about celebrating creativity and imagination.
with lego
CREATIVITY IS KING.
REALITY DOESN'T MATTER.
anything goes.

We wanted to make creativity - the things kids make with the lego  VERY important
for posters
we thought we could put them on pedastools or pant them like a king would be painted
or
like harry hills paintings but we thought WHY would you use paintings to describe lego.

or make them into bronze scultures

or what about blank posters and invite people to come and draw on it and make their own.

we also thought augmented reality would work really well

but theyve already done it lego augmeted

but them we thought it hows you what you're meant to make and how it'll look which is lame. because them you tyr and make it look  like that, and thats not our point. we want you to forget whats on the box.

WEBSITES IDEAS

we thougt you could have a website where you can upload your creations.

a button where you can shuffle the lego and it makes weird stuff

it could give you a random selection of words and you have to make it.

-this fits more

or  it ha loads of weird lego sculptures on the website and there's a caption contest
